The Put Foot is dubbed Southern Africa’s first “social rally” – 60 crews/240 people will motor out of Cape Town tomorrow (Wednesday 20th June 2012) for an epic Africa adventure, overlanding across South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique. Armed with passports stamped in visas; tow ropes, tents and jerry cans, the rally is expected to wind-up on the 6th of July, pulling-in to the final checkpoint – the white sands of Inhambane on the coast of Mozam.
The Put Foot Rally is for those who see themselves as Explorers, unafraid to chart the uncharted, unfazed by running out of petrol or losing a tyre… in the middle of a pack of lions or herd of elephants. Project Rhino KwaZulu-Natal have entered two crews/eight ambassadors into the Put Foot Rally with an aim to highlight the rhino poaching crisis and generate further awareness and funding. Project Rhino KZN are an an association of like-minded organisations (such as Wildlife ACT and Wilderness Foundation) who have clubbed together to co-ordinate rhino conservation interventions aimed at eliminating poaching and securing the rhino populations in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We will be receiving regular updates and blog posts from the crew, and in particular from team member Etienne Oosthuizen (pictured below), a professional KZN guide with an irrepressible enthusiasm for wildlife photography. Etienne is a born and bred Zimbabwean who grew up on a tobacco farm. With more than 10 years experience in 5 countries, and many hours spent behind a lens, he sees photography as being a great conservation tool.
