A lesson in honey badger etiquette!

It took four seconds for the lion to realise that he cannot leave this fight as a winner. It was a scene which I thought I would never witness – a great welcome to Botswana on our first game drive after arrival.

A young lion was walking through the grass with the rest of the pride, when he suddenly turned around as if he had forgotten something. It was then that the honey badger emerged out of the bush. It seemed that the other lions had learned their lesson already and continued on – but this young male was yet to do so.

After a bit of snarling from the badger, It wasn’t long before the lion knew he had no chance – and backed away.

After all, the honey badger is known to be the most fearless animal in the African bush.

Amazing creatures the badgers with their defense mechanism being their loose skin which allows them to literally turn around & out of the grasp of predators hence the saying “so taai soos ‘n ratel”
