A 23-Year Road Trip by Gunter Holtorf

Wow – this is one of the most inspiring travel tales I have ever come across.

A German man by the name of Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine have taken the most epic 800,000 km road trip in their old Mercedes Benz G Wagon – and Gunter is not stopping there!

They started in Africa 23 years ago when the Berlin Wall fell – planning to travel the continent for about 18 months before heading home. The travel bug obviously gripped them both and to this day Gunther continues on this world-wide journey. Other than a few punctures, his car, affectionately known as Otto, has never broken down.

May Gunter’s humble nature and passion for travel inspire more people to take their own journeys.

I think I speak for all of us at Safari when I say: Gunther, we salute you!

Hi Paul. I love this post. I think I am the female counterpart to Gunther. I would do what he is doing in a second if I were a man. Instead I have been traveling to Africa for thirty years but come back to the US in between trips. I recently became a blogger at Africa Geographic. I love your posts. Thank.
